skills development journal for my front cover
Firstly on my front cover I wanted my main image to cover the whole page and to also meet the criteria of media conventions for a front cover of a rock/heavy metal magazine. This means that it had to be at an angle to make the person seem more powerful and itimidating. To create more of a gory and heavy metal look I greyscaled the image. Next Using the stamp tool I managed to remove some of the rubbish that was in the picture.
Next I used a software called Aperture 3 for Macs to design my masthead then using photoshop i created a shadow using the dropshadow tool and made it pink. However it still covered over my main image.
Next I used the magic wand tool and to cut round Josh's "main image" head, then copy and pasted it back in, in a new layer so that the head overlapped the masthead making it appear that the masthead was behind his head.
Then I created a pink box so that once an image was put into it, it would appear as if the image had a pink border. After this I linked the two layers together with the heading and tilted all of it slighty.
Lastly on my front cover I used text of a site called DaFont to create a style of text that suited my magazine. To get this text into photoshop I had to printscreen the text and then cut and paste the part I needed into my design. For the main headline I used the same technique as the image before using the free transform tool to slighty tilt the text.
