Double page spread mood board

These are some of the double page spreads that I hope my magazine double page spread will be as successful as. All have a similar layout with quotes written on the main image and the text that seems to be anchored around the image.

Front cover design mood Board

I have chosen these 8 magazine front covers because I feel they reflect the sort of front cover I want my magazine to be. The general Theme of the 8 front covers is to have the artist/ group as the main image. All the images are medium close ups with a very serious look to them and all eyes staring straight towards you. I feel this sort of front cover is perfect for my target audience.

5 line paragraph of my magazine!

iMusic is the new generation of magazine for all your rock needs! iMusic Features all the styles of rock metal, punk, hardcore, emo, indie and darkwave, every issue of iMusic magazine will bring you the best in-depth interviews, the most reviews and the best new acts. iMusic aim is simple to bring you the best of all that is rock!

Photoshoot Ideas for my music magazine

All the images that I have included in my photoshoot ideas have either been greyscaled or are totally in black and white. I feel this is the best way to potray the genre of the magazine being rock. Also all the pictures have been taken in quite gory places such as graveyards, creepy woods and churches, I am going to include this in my main image. Something else that is instantly noticable is that all the images are taken at a low angle whic give the impression of authority and strength.

Description of audience

The audience that I am aiming my magazine for would be people who are into rock and indie music. Majority of whom would have been to at least 1 concert in their lifetimes and also be very into technology such as iPhone and iPods so that they could listen to their favorite music on the go. A generalization of the appearance of the reader would be long hair with torn shorts/ jeans and a t shirt with old gigs and bands they are into. The audience that I am targeting my magazine to is aged between 16-24 and mostly male. The attributes of this type of audience would include clubbing, technology, partying, games, drinking and music. Another key aspect of the age group of 16-24 year olds is that they do not earn a large amount of money, therefore my magazine will have to be prices efficiently so that they will be able to afford to buy it. The readers should also be highly influenced by music so much so that it affects there dress sense for example, therefore it is important to show what the bands and singers wear. Because of my target audience i will use fairly informal language so that it feels like the magazine is talking like a friend but also talking personally with things like interviews.

Surveymonkey analysis

I asked in my questionnaire what other magazines my readers where into and due to the fact the magazine im making is targeted at the male gender. Some of the other magazines they read included things such as nuts and FHM. This represents an audience that like things explained simply and not in complex language.
In my second question I asked how often my readers buy magazines, this is so that it gives me a rough idea of whether the magazine should be a daily, weekly, fortnightly or monthly magazine. The results showed that on average they bought magazines moderately often. Therefore my magazine will be produced fortnightly
I then asked if they go to gigs however the majority said no, this may be because they keep up with their bands and music via using magazines or radio.
I then asked the type of music that they listen to and I got a very broad variety from pop to deathcore. This means to reach a large target audience the magazine needs to reach a wide variety of music genres When looking at the age of the people that answered this survey I found it ranged from 17-22
I then asked where they find out about new music and put it as a multiple choice answer Tv was top closely followed by friends, radio, internet and lastly magazines. This could help as to advertising the actual magazine itself as well as it is now apparent as to how the people gain information about new products. My last question was about other products and interests they had and this is represented partially in the moodboard.

Analysing 2 different mast heads

The Kerrang music magazine can be instantly recognised as being a magazine specifically for rock, metal and indy music. It is recognisable because of the sharp edges on all of the letters and because of the cracked apperance of the title of the magazine. The coloring of the magazine also has a major part to play in recognising its genre. Bright colors would suggest pop where as black and white is more rock and metal.

Vibe magazine can instantly be recognised by its curvy bold colourful writing which suggests R&B and pop. A totally different contrast from the dull, sharp and cracked mast head from Kerrang.

3 media magazines analysis!

How are women represented in 50 cent candyshop?

How women are represented in Candy shop 50 cent.

Women are represented as an item “candy” and are made out to be inferior to men at the start. The film starts by being degrading to women for example the way in which they dress and are forced to do stuff. But then later on we get a different view of women which is that they actually want to be treated like this and that its normal.

All the women in the movie are shown as the “model” woman which have no imperfections, which in real life is not a true perception of women.

The genre of music that the song falls into has a convention of these sort of style of clips within it. Where men are represented as a type of “pimp” and can get any woman they want.

The way in which the women are dressed and how they talk shows that they are portrayed as being eye candy.

Women are also being portrayed as being “gold diggers” as the lyrics “ I’ll have you spending all you got” suggests that all the women are after is money, this is also show as the male has a flash car and a big mansion.

The main thing about women in the film is that they are portrayed as being slim, big boobed with clear skin and perfect features,

How does the journalist use written language to appeal to the target audience?

How does the journalist use written language to appeal to the target audience?

Both DPS for uncut have very simplistic wording so that they can reach a wide audience however there is some terminology that would be lost in other magazines but at the same time suggest its aimed at an older target audience, for example, “notable absentee” and they have used the words disciples rather than the more common groupies or fans.

The words appeal to the target audience because they are given a view in the magazine rather than being a balanced article. This means there is an established audience that would read this magazine which are likely to have the same views.

Four reasons for media

Four reasons for why we need media and my personal examples.

Entertainment and diversion -  For me Entertainment from media is watching family guy, I find this entertaining and a realese from everyday life and the problems encontered in everyday life.

Surveillance and infromation - This comes in the form of The EDP news paper I use it to gain information on local news and as a source of knowledge.

Personal relationships - When watching Harry Potter films I feel like I make personal relationships with some of the characters and can find companionship within them.

Personal identity - Listening to Nickelback reinforces some of my values and beliefs.

This is my moveboard it shows what I think readers of my college magazine (students) would be into.

This is my magazine front cover I used a medium close up of James to show emotion and also to enhance the photoshopped image of raining letters. The image of james is in greyscale this is so that all other bright colours are more enhanced and stand out more. The raining coloured letters is a representation of learning at college. They are contrasting coloures and stand out.
This is my inside page, it gives great detail into what is going to be inside the magazine and also helps the reader to navigate to that particualr page. The same raining coloured letters are used in the background however they have been dimmed and have a drop shadow so that it gives affect while at the same time still makes the text visable to read.

Magazine covers

http://issuu.com/schwadegan/docs/gtlife_14-02-2011

This is a magazine front cover called GTlife and I think it is a good example of a magazine cover because it is simple and instantly recognisable as a car magazine.

However because of the lack of text on the page you cannot tell what the magazine is going to have inside. To improve this I would have anchorage and subtitles titles so that readers know what is going to be inside.

The layout throughout the magazine is kept so that you can see it is all part of the same magazine.

The picture used on the front is a very good action shot which I think would attract people to pick it up and buy it.
http://issuu.com/reefmag/docs/caribbeanreefmag0101

This magazine called Caribbean Reef magazine uses a very eye catching image of a deep sea reef bed. Which is what the magazine is all about, this theme is kept throughout the whole magazine making it look professional and also makes it easy to see its all part of the same magazine.

The masthead logo is unique and recognisable as to what it represents.

The magazine also has headings which tell you what is going to be inside the magazine. This could draw in new customers if they see a title which interests them and could potentially increase their sales.

The use of colour has been kept to a minimum, making it look professional and also draws your eyes to the centre of the main image.

Cd design front, back and moveboard

This is my moveboard and it shows what the audience of the music would be into.

This is my cd front cover the picture was taken last year as one of my IT projects. The flowers grass and sophie are all on different layers. I think this cd frontcover is instantly recognisable and eyecatching.

This is my CD back and i think it follows on from the front and is easy to notice that its the back cover of the other cd front cover.
